How many refugees and asylum seekers live in Kenya?

As of 31 March 2024, there were 767,294 registered refugees and asylum seekers, with 96% drawn from six countries –Somalia (55.6%), South Sudan (23.4%), Democratic Republic of Congo (7.8%), Ethiopia (5.0%), and Burundi (4.2%).

A total of 87% live in refugee camps – with Daadab hosting 49% or 383,568, Kakuma having 38% or 283,112 – while the remaining 13% live in urban areas.
